A residential development in Mangalia, on the Romanian coast, with a complete smart intercom and access control system. Two AKUVOX R29C door stations with offline facial recognition (processed locally on the device, no cloud), 40 AKUVOX S563 indoor monitors with 8-inch touch screens in the apartments, mobile app integration for owners and building management. For the developer: a clear sales argument on security, plus simpler centralised administration.

Security that sells apartments.
Black-Sea Residence is a development of 48 apartments in Mangalia, completed with an intercom and access control package that became one of the developer's sales arguments. Buyers get a coherent experience — from the outer gate, through the lift, to the apartment — through a single system.
At the two main entrances we fitted the AKUVOX R29C — the “world's first facial recognition Android doorphone”, with a 7" touch screen, two cameras, a dedicated Android system and offline facial recognition (the AI runs on the device, not in the cloud). Aluminium housing rated IP65 + IK06 — it withstands water, dust and vandalism attempts. Dual-frequency RFID reader (13.56 MHz Mifare + 125 kHz EM4100), Bluetooth, PoE power. Calls to the apartments go over the local SIP IP network, with no traditional phone lines. For residents: keyless door opening (face + code + card), a direct video call to the phone when they are not at home, a visitor history in the app.
In 40 of the apartments we installed AKUVOX S563 indoor monitors — 8" touch screen, Android 12, SIP communication, PoE power (a single Ethernet cable, no separate socket). Video call reception, door opening, view of the entrance camera. The building management has access to a central dashboard — to schedule access for maintenance staff, monitor events and manage the resident list without visiting each apartment.

Offline facial recognition
AI processed locally on the R29C (dedicated Android), no cloud or internet. Residents enrol once; the entrance opens automatically when they are detected. Processing in under a second.
Mobile app for residents
iOS + Android. Video calls from the intercom forwarded to the phone. Remote door opening. Visit history. Push notification when someone arrives and you are not at home.
Management dashboard
Centralised access for the administrator: resident list, scheduled access for couriers and maintenance, event log, camera configuration. No need to visit every apartment.
Dual-frequency RFID
The R29C reads both 13.56 MHz (Mifare) and 125 kHz (EM4100) cards. A card or fob per resident, programmable and revocable from the dashboard. A backup for when facial recognition is not suitable (mask, glasses, rain).
Local SIP · no cloud
The R29C and S563 communicate over SIP on the development's local network, with no cloud dependency for basic operation. The internet goes down — the intercom and monitors keep working.

Why it mattered for the Black-Sea project.
- A differentiating sales argument — a smart intercom with facial recognition is a feature prospects remember at the viewing and mention when they think about the competition. Not every project on the coast has it.
- Simpler centralised administration — one dashboard, not 48 apartments with individual settings. For the owners' association or the development's administrator, that means fewer hours a year for the same quality of service.
- Security without security staff — access control is handled by the system, not by a doorman. The monthly running cost drops significantly.
- Scalable towards KNX — the local IP infrastructure allows lighting, climate or other KNX systems to be added later on the same network, without new cabling.
